Goucher Women's Volleyball Drops Match To Nationally-Ranked Juniata
BALTIMORE, Md. – Nationally-ranked Juniata College defeated Goucher College in straight sets, but the Gophers put a scare into only of the top teams in the country in the third set in Landmark Conference women's volleyball action on Wednesday.
Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Kapalama) paced Goucher with six kills and five digs while Cat Hartley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) had a team-high eight digs and Linnea Prudell (York, Pa./Central York) paced the squad with six assists in the loss.
Goucher jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the third set keyed by the service of both teams. The Eagles had two service error and Estes had a service ace.
The Gophers then took 8-5, 9-6 and 13-10 leads in the set. Juniata came back to tie the set 21 before a ball handling error and an attack error handed Goucher a 23-21 lead. The Eagles then won the final four points to win the set and the match.
Juniata won the first set 25-15 and the second set 25-11.
Goucher returns to action on Friday at Wilson College. Match time is 6 p.m.
