Brown Makes Sure The Wilson Phoenix Don't Rise Again In Straight-Sets Win For Goucher Women's Volleyball
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Bianca Brown (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) recorded 11 kills to power Goucher College to a three-set sweep against Wilson College in non-conference women's volleyball action on Friday. The Gophers won the sets 25-16, 25-20 and 25-18.
Brown notched double figures in kills for the third time this season and the sixth time in her career. The junior ranks second on the team with 130 kills on the year.
Emily Sorrells (Annapolis, Md./South River) added seven kills and Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili) chipped in five kills.
Linnea Prudell (York, Pa./Central York) posted a team-high 19 assists and Vendela Lundgren (Columbia, Md./Howard) recorded seven assists while Virginia Estes (Homewood, Ala./Homewood) had a team-best eight digs and Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Kapalama) added six digs in the winning effort.
In the first set with the Gophers trailing 3-2, Goucher rolled off the next 11 points powered by a pair of kills by Brown, Sorrells and Melchor en route to a 25-16 first set win.
In the second set, it was a 13-4 run to break a 7-all standstill to help give the Gophers control of the set and take it 25-20 for a two-set advantage and then sealed the match with a 25-18 third-set win.
The Gophers return to action at home against Alvernia on October 19. Match time is 1 p.m.
