Hartley-Prudell Combo Powers Goucher Women's Volleyball To Straight-Sets Win Against Alvernia
BALTIMORE, Md. – Cat Hartley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) and Linnea Prudell (York, Pa./Central York) combined for nine service aces while leading the team in digs and assists, respectively, to power Goucher College past Alvernia University in straight sets in non-conference women's volleyball action on Saturday.
Hartley, who leads the team with 296 digs, added to her total with a team-high 14 digs while also recorded a team-best five service aces on the afternoon. Prudell posted a team-best 12 assists to go along with four service aces.
Bianca Brown (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) posted nine kills while Tes DeJaeger (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) added eight assists and Kaya Melchor (Mililani, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools Kapalama) chipped in seven digs in the winning effort.
Alvernia jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first set before the Gophers went on a 10-1 run to take a 14-10 lead en route to a 25-16 first set win. Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville Chili), who had five kills on the afternoon, paced the 10-1 spurt with three kills while Brown set the hammer down twice in the stretch.
No slow start in the second set for Goucher after a 12-1 run including 12-straight points. Hartley was on fire during the run notching four of her five service aces during this run including three straight. Brown also had two kills during this time. The Golden Wolves trimmed the margin 13-7, but Brown had an ace and a kill in a 4-0 run to help Goucher take the second set 25-13 to a two-set lead.
The third set was closer than the other two, but never really in doubt for the Gophers to complete the sweep with a 25-18 win.
Goucher returns to action on Wednesday at Catholic. Match time is 7 p.m.
