Gophers Fall to Hood

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Hood College defeated Goucher College 3-0 in non-conference women's volleyball Thursday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Set scores were 25-15, 25-22, 25-15.
- Goucher (1-7) jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first set following a kill by Lucy Hendricks (Fort Bragg, Calif./Fort Bragg) and a Hood (4-3) attack error.
- The Blazers scored four of the next five points to tie the set 6-6 before a Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) kill.
- Hood gradually pulled away and upped its lead to 18-9 before five straight Gopher points capped by a service ace by Riley Kocell (Waxhaw, N.C. / Cuthbertson) made it 18-13.
- The Blazers scored the next five points and closed out the set on a setting error by Goucher.
- Hood used a 7-1 run to build a 15-9 lead midway through the second.
- Goucher clawed back and outscored the Blazers 9-3 to tie the set 18-18 following back-to-back service aces by Elizabeth Bobo (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley).
- The guests rallied with three straight points to take a 21-18 lead.
- Goucher cut the lead to one twice, the second time at 23-22, before Hood recorded back-to-back kills to take the frame.
- Leading 8-5, Hood used another 7-1 run to take a 15-6 lead.
- Goucher halted the run with back-to-back kills by Bobo and Hendricks before three straight points by the guests made it 18-8.
- The Blazers clinched the match on a Gopher service error.
- Hood hit .269 for the match while Goucher hit .080.
- Bobo and Turner each notched six kills apiece, with Turner also handing out 14 assists and notching six digs. Bobo hadded five digs.
- Hendricks chipped in with five kills.
- Kocell recorded 10 digs and three aces, while Nicole Kovach (New York, N.Y./Quest to Learn) racked up 14 digs.
