Gophers Battle Back Against Blue Jays

TOWSON, Md. - Elizabethtown College topped Goucher College 3-0 in Landmark Conference women's volleyball Saturday afternoon at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Set scores were 25-5, 25-15, 25-19.
- Elizabethtown (15-10, 6-3 Landmark) scored the first seven points before an Liv DeBiasio kill got Goucher (0-19, 0-7) on the board.
- The Blue Jays scored the next 11 points before another DeBiasio kill.
- The Blue Jays used an 11-0 run to build a 17-4 lead.
- Trailing 24-8, Goucher ran off seven straight points, including three Emma Taylor service aces and a pair of Imani Ward kills to make it 24-15.
- Etown picked up the final point to take a 2-0 lead.
- Down 12-9, four straight Gopher points put the hosts in front 13-12.
- After Etown came back to go up 19-17, a Taylor kill and an Athena Savick service ace tied the set 19-19.
- The Blue Jays closed out the set and the match with six straight points.
- Savick and Ward each finished with double-digit digs, notching 17 and 12, respectively.
- Ward and Maria Basantes paced the Gophers in the kill department with six apiece.
- Taylor recorded eight digs, six assists and three service aces.
- Dakota Hawkins notched two solo blocks and three total blocks, while Basantes had a solo block and two block assists.
- Goucher hosts Trinity Washington University on Tuesday at 7 pm for the final home match of 2024.
- The Gophers will honor lone senior Vivian Huddleston prior to the match.
