WESTMINSTER, Md. - Goucher finished in a tie for first place with McDaniel in the team scoring of the 5,000-meter race at today's McDaniel Cross Country Challenge.
The race was won by Lindsey Hollenshead from Hagerstown Community, who crossed the finish line in 20:27, :10 ahead of Goucher's J. Fraley Coles (The Plains, VA/Highland School).
Goucher's other runners in the race were Becky Foner (Cape Elizabeth, ME/Cape Elizabeth), who placed eighth (21:51), Tamara Filipovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Mercersburg Academy) in 14th place (23:32) and Rosehelle Kades (Richmond, VA/Maggie Walker Gov School) in 18th place (24:22). Kades finished two spots and :32 ahead of McDaniel's fourth runner and that is what allowed the Gophers to wind up tied with the Green Terror in the final team scoring with 35 points. York captured third place with 39 points.
Goucher was not awarded a team score in the 3,000-meter race because it had only three runners. Kate Young (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) was the top performer for the Gophers in the shorter race as she posted a time of 13:09, good for ninth place.
