NEWVILLE, Pa. — Anna Sandacz (Jessup, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) was the first of the four runners Goucher entered in the shorter race to cross the finish line at today's Dickinson Long/Short Invitational and her time ranks among the all-time best in the history of the school's women's cross country program.
Sandacz completed the 4,000-meter race in 16:55.12, the fifth-fastest time in program history for a race of that distance. The junior placed 113th overall among the 301 runners who competed in the shorter race.
Also running the shorter race for the Gophers were Zoe Malkin (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional), who placed 160th with her time of 17:58.80, Gaby Roque (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) in 202nd place (18:46.83), and Annie Drascher (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) in 245th (20:42.10).
Goucher earned a score of 334 points in the short race for 25th place. Because the Gophers entered only two runners in the 6,000-meter race, they failed to score in that event and were not awarded an overall team score.
In the longer race, Camille Jorgensen (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) placed 163rd in a field of 265 runners with a time of 28:04.52. Soliana Goldrich (Cleveland, Ohio/Beachwood) posted a time of 31:07.07, good for 222nd place.
The next time the Gophers compete will be October 4 at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
