TOWSON, Md. – Junior Clea Lerner (Los Angeles, Calif.) is the first member named to the All-Goucher First Team for the 2016-17 academic year.
Lerner was a key contributor to the Goucher College Equestrian team throughout the 2016-17 season, aiding the team to an eighth-place finish at the 2017 IHSA National Horse Show – marking the sixth consecutive year the Gophers have finished in the top-ten in the nation.
Leading to the appearance at the IHSA National Horse Show, Lerner competed at a very high level for the Gophers at the Novice level. During the Zone IV Regional I Championships, she took home fifth place in the Novice Fences Division. Two weeks later, she took home first place in the Novice Flat Division helping the Gophers to Zone IV Reserve Champion honors.
In preparation for the IHSA Nationals, Goucher traveled to Hardeeville, S.C. to partake in the 2017 ANRC National Championships where Lerner shined again. The trio of Rena DiPaula (Westminster, Md.), Alison Radgowski (Northport, N.Y.) and Lerner combined to take home Reserve Champion honors in the Novice Division – the first time Goucher has earned the designation in school history.
Finally, at the IHSA National Horse Show, Lerner secured Goucher's highest finish on the weekend, taking home fourth place in the Novice Equitation on the Flat during the first day of competition. By virtue of the finish, she earned three of Goucher's seven points on the weekend.
The All-Goucher Team is selected by a panel of athletic administrators and represents the 10 most distinguished student-athletes and most outstanding coach during an academic year. The All-Goucher team was established in 2010-11 and is selected annually.
From June 2nd, 2017 until June 16th, 2017 Goucher will unveil one new member of the 2016-17 All-Goucher Team every weekday at 2:30 p.m. For a complete list of last year's 2015-16 All-Goucher Team, click here.
