Gophers Open Up Commanding lead in Zone IV Region I
The Gophers started their regular season this weekend with a big win, opening up a 14-point advantage over the 12-team field of Maryland, DC and Virginia colleges & universities.
BALTIMORE, MD. - The Gophers started their regular season this weekend with a big win, opening up a 14-point advantage over the 12-team field of Maryland, DC and Virginia colleges & universities.
In an impressive feat, every Gopher that competed was awarded either first or second place in their respective classes.
The team was led by junior Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge) who won both Open flat & Open fences, as well as High Point Rider honors for the day.
Other first place performances came from senior Alison Radgowski (Northport, N.Y. / Northport) in Intermediate flat, junior Clea Lerner (Los Angeles, Calif. / Renaissance Arts Academy) in Novice fences, freshman Rena DiPaula (Westminster, Md. / Institute of Notre Dame) in Novice flat, senior Sarah Lummis (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) in Walk Trot Canter, junior Stephanie Detwiler (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) in Walk Trot Canter, and junior Rachel Brannock (Baltimore, Md. / Towson) in Walk Trot.
Second place performances came from freshman John Porter (Somers, Conn. / Somers) in Open flat & Open fences, freshman Courtney Sloan (Annandale, Va. / W.T. Woodson) in Intermediate fences, and senior Hannah Woodson (Timonium, Md. / Dulaney) in Novice flat.
The Gophers will look to build on their advantage next Sunday at the Towson University IHSA show at Amazing Grace Stables.
