Greyhounds Hold Off Gophers in Conference Matchup

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College Gophers (12-6 Overall; 5-6 Conference) fell to the Moravian University Greyhounds (5-13 Overall; 3-8 Conference) after taking the lead in the second quarter and never looking back. Sam Osario of Moravian netted her 1,000 career point in the contest.
- Meona Boykin began the scoring for the Gophers, off a fast break from tipoff.
- The Gophers took an early lead, 11-4, after a two made threes by Amira Whitaker and multiple free throws (6:14).
- The Greyhounds rallied back to tie the game (3:54), before Chi Igwe retained the lead.
- Maiya Villanueva put the Gophers ahead with a pair of threes.
- Lauryn Towns capped the scoring in the quarter for the Gophers to give them a 22-20 lead.
- Moravian began the scoring with four quick points to put them in the lead (9:25).
- Nia Edens responded with a fast break to tie the game again.
- The Greyhounds went on a six point run, which was stopped by a free throw from Whitaker.
- Points from Merci Turner, Briyah Haggins, and Whitaker keep the game within one point (3:33).
- The teams traded points for the remainder of the quarter, with Moravian holding a 45-41 lead going into half.
- Moravian added eight points to their lead, before Boykin capped the run with a made layup, and drawing the foul for the free throw.
- Villanueva added a three to her total on the night to cut the lead (4:15).
- A fast break from Haggins brought the Gophers within two with just under two minutes remaining.
- The Greyhounds utilized the reaminder of the quarter to extend their lead to seven.

- Moravian added five points to bring the score to 77-70 with five minutes remaining in the game.

- The Greyhounds ended the game on a four point run to secure the 92-83 victory.
- Whitaker led the Gophers with 25 points, he also collected five rebounds and two steals.
- Three other Gophers collected double digits; Boykin earned 14, Villanueva added 12, and Towns rounded out with 10.
- Moravian out rebounded the Gophers 70-44, and collected 18 points off 18 turnovers. Goucher earned 26 points off the 37 forced turnovers.
- The Greyhounds shot 43.8% on the night, going 1-3 beyond the arc, and going 35-49 from the freethrow line.
- The Gophers shot 28.9% in the game, going 7-34 from the three point arc, and shooting 63.2% from the charity stripe.
- Goucher travels to Scranton this Saturday, February 1st for the second game of the double header, set to tip off at 4pm.
- The Gophers return home to face Lycoming College on Saturday, February 8th for the first game of the double header, beginning at 2pm.
