First Place in Final Relay Clinches Two Additional Wins

By finishing in first place in the 200 free relay, the Gophers earned enough points to knock off Hood, 108-90, and when Frostburg St. did no better than fifth place in the event, head coach Thomas Till's swimmers also nailed down a 114-89 victory over the Bobcats.
The Gophers (3-0) defeated Stevenson, 119-81.
Swimming for Goucher in the 200 free relay were Ila Jackson (Columbia, Md./homeschooled), Kristin Sullivan (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat), Molly Brenton (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) and Lizzy Hannifin (Denver, Colo./East). They completed the event in 1:49.60, beating out an entry from Hood by 72-hundredths of a second.
Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) competed in three individual events and took first place in both the 500 freestyle (5:25.89) and 1000 freestyle (11:12.93). She was runner-up in the 200 free (2:06.24).
Goucher also produced the first-place perfomer in the 100 free: Hannifin won the event in a time of :57.57.
In addition to Regopoulos in the 200 free, Jackson placed second in the 50 free (:25.57) and Kyanna Cadwallader (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) was runner-up in the 100 butterfly (1:08.09).
The Bobcats (3-3) came away from the competition with victories over Hood, 104-96, and Stevenson, 112-87; the Blazers (1-3) turned back the Mustangs (1-3), 113-75.
Goucher will take part in a triangular meet with Marymount and St. Mary's (Md.) in St. Mary's City, Md. next Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
