Bio

In 2008, Justin Dunn was recruited to Goucher as an attackman, but in 2009, he made the transition to defense making his presence known very quickly. From 2009-2011, if you were in need of defense, you were calling on Dunn. He was a force to be reckoned with and master of the caused turnover.

Dunn was a three-year starter for the Gophers, making 50 starts in 50 games. In that time he posted 162 groundballs and a Goucher College career record, 140, caused turnovers. In addition to the career record, Dunn holds the record for caused turnovers in a single season (59) and caused turnovers in a single game (7) – a feat he accomplished four times, and twice against nationally ranked opponents.

During his tenure at Goucher College the men’s lacrosse team went 46-20 (.697), advancing to four Landmark conference tournaments, three Landmark Conference championships and the first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

In 2009, Dunn started 15-of-15 games and helped Goucher to a 10-5 record overall and 5-2 record in Landmark Conference play. Prior to the season coach Kyle Hannan stated about Dunn, “He can step right in and be the third starter on close defense.” Dunn made his coach prophetic during his debut season as a defenseman managing 24 caused turnovers and 39 ground balls for the staunch Gophers defense, earning him Landmark Conference First Team honors.

In 2010, Dunn continued his dominance of defense, aiding the Gophers to a 14-4 record overall and their first Landmark Conference championship. By the end of the season, Goucher boasted a winning percentage of .778, which ranked 14th in the nation. Additionally, the defense allowed only 6.89 goals against per game, ranking 16th in the nation. Dunn paired up with goalkeeper, Chris Stricklin ’10, who finished the season ranked 5th in the nation in goals against average (6.38).

During that championship year, Dunn led the team with 59 caused turnovers and 70 ground balls. His mark in caused turnovers still stands as a Goucher College season record. Dunn was named a USILA All-American Honorable Mention and First Team All-Landmark Conference honoree for the 2010 season.

Dunn and the Gophers’ defense remained steadfast in 2011, allowing only 7.65 goals per game, ranking second in the Landmark Conference. As a senior, Dunn went on to generate a team-high 46 caused turnovers and 53 groundballs. For the second year in a row, he was named a USILA All-American Honorable Mention and earned All-Landmark First Team honors for the third consecutive year.

Dunn is one of eight individuals to earn Division III All-American honors in Goucher College men’s lacrosse history.
