Bio

According to Coach Patte Zumbrun, “When Kate arrived at Goucher as a freshman, she had a significant impact on the riding team's success and was the lynchpin that set the team’s winning record in motion.” She was essentially the first really competitive open rider that Coach Zumbrun ever had and she made all the difference in her ability to recruit other talented riders to the program

During her freshman campaign, Fournel Renner ranked third in the Affiliated National Riding Commission (ANRC) championship, scoring 81.185 points – the highest individual finish for third-placed Goucher that year.

Fournel Renner returned in 2002 to the ANRC to place sixth in overall individual competition. She posted the third-highest score in the hunter trials, which helped her overall performance in the event. The Gophers finished sixth overall in the event with 224.43 points.

In 2003, Fournel Renner led the Gophers to their first-ever regional championship and improved upon her performance at the ANRC Championships, clinching a fourth-place finish with 82.72 points. Prior to the ANRC Championships, the rider from Raleigh, NC secured her way to nationals with a first-place finish in Open Fences at the IHSA Zone IV Championships.

In Goucher riding’s first-ever appearance at the national championships, Fournel Renner finished eighth of 18 riders in open equitation over fences –marking the second top ten performer in any national event for the Gophers.

Over the course of her career, Kate earned the Neena Tolley Ewing, Ruth Baird Thompson and Janet McBrien Awards at Goucher College.
