Three Gophers Named to Landmark Conference All-Decade Team
David Spivey ?14, Joey Caracappa and Seth Hoesman ?16 have been named to the Landmark Conference Men?s Tennis All-Decade Team, celebrating their success on the court for the blue and gold.
TOWSON, Md. – David Spivey '14, Joey Caracappa and Seth Hoesman '16 have been named to the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis All-Decade Team, celebrating their success on the court for the blue and gold.
Hoesman is the sole Goucher player being recognized for both singles and doubles play on the All-Decade team while both Spivey and Caracappa were recognized for doubles play.
Hoesman, who was a Landmark Conference Singles First Team selection in 2013, 2014 and 2016 as well as a Second Team selection in 2015, won 61 singles matches in his career at Goucher College. At the time, the mark was the Goucher College men's tennis singles record. In addition to posting a 61-25 record overall, he is was 21-9 in conference play during his four-year stint with the Gophers.
He is currently the Landmark Conference record holder in season singles wins (22), career singles dual wins (59), doubles dual wins (57), second in career singles wins (61) and third in doubles wins (58).
Hoesman also earned First Team honors in the Landmark Conference in doubles play. During the 2013 and 2014 seasons, he was selected with teammate Spivey. He rounded out his four years with teammate Joey Caracappa in 2015 and 2016.
Overall, Hoesman was 59-29 in doubles play during his career, and 22-8 in the Landmark Conference. While paired with Caracappa, the duo broke the Goucher College team doubles wins record en route to 31 wins, snapping a record that stood for 14 years.
Spivey is being honored on the All-Decade team in doubles with teammate Hoesman. While paired with the Ellicott City, Md. native, Spivey won 23 matches overall. Over the course of his career, he netted 30 doubles wins – ten of which came in Landmark Conference play.
Also honored on the All-Decade team for doubles, Caracappa posted 31 wins with teammate Hoesman, including a 14-2 record in conference play. During the 2016 season, he was recognized as the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year and the Landmark Tournament Most Valuable Player – leading the Gophers to their first-ever Landmark Conference Championship.
Caracappa is the Landmark Conference record holder in season doubles dual wins (20) and career doubles dual winning pct. (.821).
The All-Decade team was selected by the membership of the Landmark Conference and is announced prior to the conference championship. Athletes that were named All-Conference First Team a minimum of two times, and/or were named Landmark Player of the Year, during their career were nominated automatically, and each team had the opportunity to nominate additional individuals for consideration.
