Goucher Announces 2019 Recipients Of The Renie Amoss Fund Prize
BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College has announced the five recipients of the Renie Amoss Fund Prize. The 27th Annual Renie Race will take place on Sunday at 9 a.m. on the Goucher College campus and the honorees will be awarded their prize at the awards ceremony in the Decker Sports And Recreation Center at the conclusion of the race.
Spots are still open for the Renie Race, a 5K Run or a 1.5 mile walk. Pre-registration is $10 for Goucher students and $15 for adults. Online registration ends on Friday and pre-registration ends on Saturday, but anyone can still join by registering on Sunday for the cost of $20 with cash or check. 2019 Renie Amoss Fund Prize Recipients
Alexandra DiGiovanni is a sophomore from Dover, Pa., who is majoring in Chemistry with a Public Health minor. She is currently a resident assistant in the dorms, has been a member of the women's lacrosse team, a senator in student government, a Goucher scholar volunteer in community based learning, on the Goucher History and Curriculum committees, and an admission ambassador among her many campus contributions, and in so doing has maintained a 4.0 GPA. She hopes to go to medical school after graduation in order to become a pediatric oncologist.
Mandile Mpofu is from Harare, Zimbabwe who is majoring in Communications and Media Studies and French with an Arts Administration concentration . She continues to carry a 4.0 GPA in this, her senior year. She has been an ambassador scholar, a multiple scholar athlete, a top player on the women's tennis team, co-president of the Goucher International student association, program coordinator for study abroad retreat and a Tubman House volunteer in community-based learning, among other activities. Mpofu studied abroad in Paris, France and after graduation she hopes to return to Zimbabwe to start her own media company.
Neve Levinson, who is attending an Ultimate Frisbee tournament the weekend of the race, is a junior from Seattle, Washington who is majoring in Spanish with a 3.91 GPA. She is the news editor for the campus newspaper, a tutor in the writing center, a member of the Goucher History project committee, a campus fellow in the JED campus partnership and a member of the interfaith council while also directing and organizing the home tournaments for the Ultimate Frisbee team that she plays on. Levinson studied abroad in Columbia and plans to go to Argentina this spring. After graduation she may take time to travel and perhaps work with AmeriCorps before going to graduate school.
Ridwan Lawal is a senior from Hyattsville, Maryland who is majoring in Economics with an environmental studies minor. He is on the dean's list with a 3.4 GPA and is the president of Umoja, which is the black student union, president of the agricultural co-op, co-chair of the first year mentor program, club council treasurer and student assistant in the Alumni office. He studied community development abroad in Ghana West Africa and after graduation he will be teaching middle school for Teach for America in Cleveland Ohio.
Rylee McDonnell is a junior from Estell Manor, New Jersey who is majoring in biochemistry and Molecular biology with a concentration in premedical studies. Her GPA is a 4.0 and she has received the Hyman Scholarship for science. She has been teaching assistant for BIO 102, a supplemental instruction leader, research assistant, co-president of the Students Athletic Advisory committee and a member of the women's soccer team. McDonnell will be studying abroad in St. Andrews Scotland in the spring and hopes to go to medical school after graduation to eventually specialize in obstetrics.
