Meet the 2022-23 All-Goucher First Team
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College athletic department recently announced its 2022-23 All-Goucher Team. The All-Goucher Team, established in 2010-11, is selected by a panel of coaches and administrators and represents the 10 most distunguished athletes and most outstanding coach during an academic year.
The 2022-23 All-Goucher Second Team was profiled Wednesday.
Comprising the 2022-23 All-Goucher Team First Team:
Cole Jackson, senior, equestrian (Denver, Colo./East) (captain)
Jackson earned Reserve National Champion honors in Team Open Flat at IHSA Nationals in May, becoming the fourth Reserve National Champion in program history. He also finished third in Team Open Fences at nationals and was seventh in the final Cacchone Cup standings, signifying the top individual rider at the national show.
Bryan Laut, men's soccer (head coach)
Laut, who along with his staff earned Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year in 2022, guided the Gophers to 10 wins, their most since 1992, a Landmark semifinal appearance and the program's first ECAC berth, advancing to the quarterfinals. At 10-4-6, Goucher was above .500 for the first time since 2014.
Angel Cerpa, junior, men's tennis (El Paso, Texas/Americas)
Cerpa earned Landmark All-Conference honors in singles for the third time in his career this season as a First Team member, as he was a Second Team choice in 2021 and 2022. Playing primarily No. 1 for the Gophers, he finished with three singles wins in conference play and seven victories overall. He was also Second Team All-Conference in doubles after he and Tadeo Asprella went 7-0 in league play at No. 2.
Ali Kazim Nakhid, senior, men's soccer (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC)
Nakhid earned a bevy of awards this season, earning United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-Region honors as well as being named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. A Landmark First Team selection, Nakhid totaled 11 goals and a pair of assists for 24 points. He was also named a USC Third Team Scholar All-American.
Belle St. Jean, junior, women's soccer (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee)
St. Jean was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team as a Third Team defender in addition to earning Landmark Conference First Team All-Conference accolades. St. Jean was one of three players to start all 18 games for the Gophers, who earned the program's first ECAC berth in 2022.
Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw, first year, women's track and field/cross country (Adelphi, Md./Cheverly STEM Education Center)
Thornton-Fillyaw qualified for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships in the 800 meter run in both indoor and outdoor after winning the Landmark Conference gold during both seasons. The 2022-23 Landmark Indoor Rookie of the Year, she was All-Region in both indoor and outdoor and set a combined six school records. During the cross country season Thornton-Fillyaw placed 24th at the Landmark Conference Championship and 76th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
