Equestrian Clinches IHSA Zone IV Region I Title With Perfect Score
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College equestrian team posted a perfect score of 49 on Saturday, winning all possible classes, and in the process clinching its 12th-straight IHSA Zone IV Region I title as the Gophers hosted their final home show of the season on Saturday.
Heading into the final IHSA show of the regular season next Saturday hosted by the University of Maryland and American University, Goucher holds a 67-point lead in the Zone IV Region I standings.
Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) was Saturday's High Point Rider and finished first in both Open Flat and Open Fences. Jackson also qualified for regionals in Open Flat.
Kellen Sullivan (Hampton, Va./Donald Sullivan) placed first in Intermediate Fences, while Halle Taylor (Dakar, Senegal / International School of Dakar) was first in Intermediate Flat.
Sarah Schultheis (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) and Flannery Supplee (Monkton, Md. / Hereford) both finished first in Limit Fences, with Celeste Fazioli (Seabrook, Texas / Clear Falls) coming in second. Claire Edwards (Kailua, Hawaii / Le Jardin Academy), Cordelia Edwards (Los Angeles, Calif. / Immaculate Heart) and Elsa Sellmeyer (Silver Spring, Md. / Home School) each placing first in Limit Flat. Sydney Smith (Falls Chuch, Va. / George Mason) took third in Limit Flat.
Kristen Wilhelm (Columbia, Md. / Liberty) took home first in Novice Flat, with Morgan Kingsbury earning the top spot in Intro Flat.
Goucher is back in action next Saturday at the Maryland/American show in Burtonsville, Md. next Saturday.
