Gophers Nab Five Championships at IHSA Zone IV, Region I Championships
NOKESVILLE, Va. - The Goucher College equestrian team claimed five individual championships at the IHSA Zone IV, Region I Championships held Saturday at Timely Manor at South Riding School. All four riders who qualified for zones finished first or second.
Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) earned the title of Zone IV, Region I Champion in Open Flat and the Reserve Regional Champion in Open Fences. Jackson also captured the Zone IV, Region I Cacchione Rider title during the regular season and will compete with the other Zone IV Cacchione regional title winners for a spot at nationals at the Zone IV Championships on April 9.
Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) took the Zone IV, Region I title in Limit Fences, while Halle Taylor (Dakar, Senegal/International School of Dakar) was Champion in Limit Flat.
Flannery Supplee (Monkton, Md./Hereford) was the Reserve Zone IV, Region I Champion in Novice Flat.
Goucher, which won its 12th straight IHSA Zone IV, Region I title during the regular season, will see all four who competed Saturday compete at the Zone IV Championships on Saturday, April 9 at St. Andrew's Equestrian Center in Laurinburg, N.C. The Gophers will also be competing as a team for a spot at Nationals in May.
