Equestrian Set to Compete at IHSA Zone IV Championship Saturday
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College equestrian team is set to compete at the IHSA Zone IV Championship this Saturday, April 9 at St. Andrew's Equestrian Center in Laurinburg, North Carolina. The Gophers, who enter as the Zone IV, Region I champions, will be looking to qualify for a spot at nationals.
Should Goucher finish first or second at Saturday's Zone IV Championship as a team, it will advance to the IHSA National Championships set for May 5-8 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In addition, any individual who finishes top two in an event will advance to nationals as well.
The Gophers had four riders compete at the Zone IV, Region I Championship on March 19, with all five coming in first or second. Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) earned Regional champion honors in Open Flat and Reserve Regional Champion in Open Fences. Jackson also captured the Zone IV, Region I Cacchione Rider title during the regular season and will compete with the other Zone IV Cacchione regional title winners for a spot at nationals on Saturday.
Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) was the Regional champion in Limit Fences and Halle Taylor (Dakar, Senegal/International School of Dakar) was Regional champion in Limit Flat. Flannery Supplee (Monkton, Md./Hereford) was the Reserve Regional Champion in Novice Flat.
Goucher is seeking its first trip to IHSA nationals as a team since 2017.
