Equestrian Finishes Third at IHSA Zone IV Championship, Shoop Qualifies for Nationals
LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Goucher College equestrian team placed third at the IHSA Zone IV Championship hosted by St Andrew's University on Saturday. The Gophers narrowly missed qualifying for IHSA nationals, as the top two teams from each zone advance. Defending team national champion Emory & Henry placed first, while Sweet Briar College was the Reserve Champion in second. St. Andrew's and Washington and Lee rounded out the top five.
Junior Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) qualified for IHSA nationals as an individual, finishing as the Limit Fences Reserve Champion. She will compete at nationals set for May 5-8 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Shoop also finished first in Team Intermediate Fences.
Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) finished second in Team Open Flat and fourth in Team Open Fences, while placing seventh in individual Open Flat.
Kellen Sullivan (Hampton, Va./Donald Sullivan) placed fourth in Intermediate Flat. Jacob Connell (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) posted a third place finish in Limit Flat and a fifth place in Limit Fences.
Kristen Wilhelm (Columbia, Md./Liberty) placed third in Novice Flat. Morgan Kingsbury finished fifth in Intro Flat.
Halle Taylor (Dakar, Senegal/International School of Dakar) was seventh in Limit Flat. Flannery Supplee (Monkton, Md./Hereford) placed 10th in Novice Flat.
The Goucher equestrian team is back in action starting Thursday at the ANRC National Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Centenary University in Long Valley, New Jersey.
