Equestrian Places Fourth at ANRC Championship
LONG VALLEY, N.J. - The Goucher College equestrian team placed fourth at the ANRC Championships held Thursday through Saturday and hosted by Centenary (N.J.) University. The Gophers placed fourth behind Savannah Art & Design Bees, Centenary Blue and Centenary Gold. Goucher bested Savannah Art & Design Black and Yellow, Sweet Briar and Saint Andrew's. SCAD is the defending national champion.
Goucher placed third in the Derby phase, which is ranked by the average of the top two team scores. Cordelia Edwards (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) placed seventh riding Donatello with a score of 75. Kellen Sullivan (Hampton, Va./Donald Sullivan) was eighth riding Coco Chanel, also recording a 75.
Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) placed 10th in the Flat phase riding Jack Sparrow. The Gophers placed sixth as a team in Flat.
In the Medal Phase Goucher was fourth in the Jumping phase. This is also ranked by the average of the top two team scores. Shoop, riding Jack Sparrow, was fifth with a score of 81.5. Sullivan was sixth on Coco Chanel with a score of 80.
ANRC is split into four phases of competition, which are weighted as follows - 5% written, 35% program ride (flat equitation tests), 30% derby field, 30% medal ride.
Shoop will be in competition at IHSA Nationals on Thursday, May 5 as she competes in Limit Fences. That show will be held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.
