TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College equestrian program is one of just three schools nationwide that will be competing in the practicum competition of the Teresa L McDonald IHSA Scholarship Challenge this Saturday, May 7. The event is being held in conjunction with the IHSA National Championships that are being held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
On Saturday, Goucher will be competing alongside Northeastern University and Virginia Tech.
"With our Equine Studies minor in full swing now, I am so proud and excited for this new chapter of Goucher Equine success," said Goucher Director of Equestrian Jen Smith. "This national competition has a new format this year, and I'm proud to be one of only three schools selected with heavy-hitter vet schools like Virginia Tech. It's a really remarkable achievement for such a young program.""
The Teresa L. McDonald IHSA Scholarship Challenge is a free online test covering non-discipline-specific, general horsemanship topics and is open to all IHSA undergraduate members. The test consists of 50 questions from the USHJA HQC Study Guide and the IHSA rulebook and teams of six from each school have 15 minutes to complete the test. The top three team scores were invited to Saturday's practicum competition.
Three members of top teams will compete in the practicum portion and those scores will be added to the written test scores to determine the winning team. The members of the team competing in the practicum portion of the testing do not have to be the same as those whose scores count toward the written test score. Each team can decide who will compete in that portion based on their team dynamic.
The winning team will receive scholarship money for their school.
