Equestrian Earns Reserve Champion Honors at Pre-Season Classic Tournament of Champions
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The Goucher College equestrian team earned Reserve Champion honors as the Pre-Season Classic Tournament of Champions hosted by the University of Michigan on Saturday. The Gophers earned a total of 27 points to trail only Savannah College of Art and Design, which accumulated 33 points. The University of Massachusetts (23) and University of Findlay Black (17) were third and fourth, while Cornell University rounded out the top five with 16 points.
The Tournament of Champions is an invite-only competition for schools that won their regional championship the previous year. Goucher was competing in its 10th straight Preseason Tournament of Champions.
Senior Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) captured the High Collegiate Medal for the second time in his career at the event. He finished first in open flat and second in open fences.
Jacob Connell (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) placed second in limit flat and fourth in limit fences. Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) earned fifth in the low collegiate medal.
Hayley Anderson (Wayne, Ill./South Elgin) took fourth in intermediate flat in her collegiate debut. Kristen Wilhelm (Columbia, Md./Liberty) earned third in novice flat.
Goucher opens IHSA competition next Saturday when it competes at the George Mason IHSA Show at South Run Riding School in Nokesville, Virginia. Goucher's first home show of the season is set for Saturday, October 22.
