Equestrian Takes High Point Honors at American
BURTONSVILLE, Md. - The Goucher College equestrian team took High Point Team honors at the American University IHSA Show at Springhill Stables on Saturday. The Gophers accumulated 43 points to place ahead of George Mason (39) and the University of Maryland (38).
Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) was the High Point Rider of the show. She placed first in Limit Flat and Intermediate Fences.
Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) was the show's Reserve High Point Rider. He finished first in both Open Flat and Open Fences.
Rhyan Orenstein (Bayside, Wisc./Pathways) took first in Pre-Novice Flat, while Morgan Kingsbury (Wentworth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) was first in Intro Flat.
Goucher also had six second place finishes on the day. Hayley Anderson (Wayne, Ill./South Elgin) was runner-up in Intermediate Flat, while Elsa Sellmeyer (Silver Spring, Md.) was second in Limit Flat. Jacob Connell (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) placed second in Limit Fences.
Karen O'Brien (Harwood, Md./The Key School) and Jocelyn Harris (Lancaster, Pa./Donegal) were each second in Limit Flat, while Kristen Wilhelm (Columbia, Md./Liberty) was second in Novice Flat.
Goucher hosts its first IHSA show of the season next Saturday at 10 am.
