Equestrian Earns Reserve Champion at Holiday Classic Tournament of Champions
BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Goucher College equestrian team earned Reserve Champion honors as the Holiday Classic Tournament of Champions hosted by Virginia Tech on Saturday. The Gophers finished only behind Savannah Art & Design at the show, which is invitation-only amongst champion teams from the previous season.
Behind SCAD and Goucher, the host Hokies, Hollins and Sacred Heart rounded out the top five, followed by Washington & Lee, the University of Massachusetts and Delaware Valley University. A total of 14 teams competed.
Goucher had three first-place finishes on the day. Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) finished first in Open Flat, fifth in Open Fences and placed third in the standings for High Medal.
Jacob Connell (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) finished first in Limit Flat and second in Limit Fences. Kristen Wilhelm (Columbia, Md./Liberty) placed first in Novice Flat.
Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) finished fourth in Intermediate Fences, with Elsa Sellmeyer (Silver Spring, Md.) placing fourth in Intermediate Flat.
Morgan Kingsbury (Wentworth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) finished second in Intro Flat, while Cordelia Edwards (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) was seventh in the standings for Low Medal.
Saturday's show closed out the first semester for Goucher. The Gophers are back in action on Saturday, January 28 at the Winter Classic Tournament of Champions hosted by SCAD.
