Equestrian Wraps Up Regular Season With Seventh Straight IHSA Triumph
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College equestrian team wrapped up the IHSA Zone IV, Region I regular season by taking team high point honors for the seventh straight IHSA show at home on Saturday. The University of Maryland was the reserve high point team.
Goucher captured its 11th straight IHSA regional title and 15th overall prior to Saturday's show.
Senior Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) was the High Point Rider for the show after taking first in Open Flat and Open Fences. He finished as the top rider in the region Cacchione Cup class for the second straight season and will represent the region at the Zone IV championship being hosted by Goucher on April 1.
The Gophers had three other first place finishes on the day. Kellen Sullivan (Hampton, Va./Donald Sullivan) placed first in Intermediate Fences, while Cordelia Edwards (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) was first in Limit Flat. Jacob Connell (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) placed first in Limit Fences.
Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) took second in Intermediate Fences. Zoe Wright-Riley (Villanova, Pa./Harriton) finished third in Limit Flat, with Celeste Fazioli (Seabrook, Texas/Clear Falls) placing in fourth in Limit Flat.
Goucher also honored its seniors at Saturday's show: Fazioli, Jackson, Shoop, Juliette Colas (Paris, France / Ecole Planchat), Morgan Kingsbury (Wentworth, N.H./Plymouth Regional), Lexi Mason (Lothian, Md./Southern), Rhyan Orenstein (Bayside, Wisc. / Pathways), Sarah Schultheis (Sterling, Va. / Potomac Falls) and Elsa Sellmeyer (Silver Spring, Md.)
Goucher is back in action Saturday at the Zone IV, Region I championships at Springhill Stables in Burtonsville, Maryland. Goucher will have six individuals competing, with the top two spots moving on to the Zone championships.
