Jackson, Sullivan Place on Day One of IHSA Nationals
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Senior Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) and junior Kellen Sullivan (Hampton, Va./Donald Sullivan) each earned top-10 finishes for the Goucher College equestrian team on the first day of the 2023 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Nationals at Alltech Arena on Thursday.
Jackson took fourth place in Individual Open Flat. He finished fourth to champion Alexander Alston of Savannah Art & Design, reserve champion Harper Sanford of Skidmore and Elizabeth Nevins of Boston University.
Sullivan place sixth in Team Intermediate Flat to earn Goucher's first points in the team competition.
With four points, Goucher is tied for 10th out of 16 schools. Emory & Henry leads with 24, followed by Skidmore (23) and Mount Holyoke (13). Five more team competitions will take place over the next two days.
Jacob Connell (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) earned Honorable Mention in Team Limit Fences and Team Limit Flat.
Goucher has four riders competing on day two of Nationals Friday beginning at 8 am. Jackson competes in the Cacchione Cup High Point Rider competition in fences and flat. Morgan Kingsbury (Wentworth, N.H./Plymouth Regional) competes in Team Intro Flat, Makaylin Shoop (Davidsonville, Md./South River) is set to compete in Team Intermediate Fences and Kristen Wilhelm (Columbia, Md./Liberty) competes in Team Novice Flat.
