Jackson Reserve National Champion in Team Open Flat, Equestrian Finishes Eighth at Nationals
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Senior Cole Jackson (Denver, Colo./East) finished as the Reserve National Champion in Team Open Flat on the final day of the 2023 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Nationals on Saturday at Alltech Arena. Jackson, who also finished third in Team Open Fences earlier in the day, propelled the Gophers to an eighth-place finish out of 16 competing teams. The eighth place matches Goucher's last trip to nationals as a team in 2017.
Jackson's Reserve National Championship is the fourth in program history. Goucher has also had four National Champions.
In Opel Flat, Jackson finished behind Alexander Alston of Savannah Art & Design. In Open Fences, he placed seventh behind Anna Perlow of Long Island University and Celia Cram of SCAD.
Jackson also competed in the work-off in the Cacchione Cup competition on Saturday for top individual rider at the show. Jackson finished seventh in the final standings. Elizabeth Nevins of Boston University was the Cacchione Cup winner.
Goucher's top-10 finish is its seventh in eight all-time trips to IHSA Nationals. Skidmore College finished as National Champion, with SCAD taking Reserve National Champion honors.
Goucher, which finished with 22 points, also scored points with Kellen Sullivan (Hampton, Va./Donald Sullivan), who finished sixth in Intermediae Flat on Thurday, and Kristen Wilhelm (Columbia, Md./Liberty), who was seventh in Novice Flat on Friday.
