Etown Pulls Away From Gophers Late

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Host Elizabethtown scored once in the first quarter and twice in the fourth en route to a 3-0 win over Goucher in Landmark Conference field hockey Sunday afternoon in the conference opener for both teams.
- Goucher (0-6, 0-1 Landmark) generated a penalty corner just under four minutes into the game that produced a shot on goal by Hannah Washburn (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) that was saved by Elizabethtown (4-4, 1-0) goalie Angelina Giglio-Tos.
- Grace Hussey had Etown's first shot just past the 11-minute mark that was saved by Devin Brashear (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual).
- The Blue Jays generated three penalty corners in the final three minutes of the quarter and cashed in on an untimed corner as Anna Mostoller scored.
- Etown kept the pressure up with five penalty corners in the first half of the second quarter, with Brashear recording three saves.
- Off a Gopher penalty corner in the 25th minute, a shot by Daryn Carter (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) rang off the post.
- The Blue Jays had two more shots in the quarter resulting in a Brashear save and a shot off the post.
- Brighid Kowal (Silver Spring, Md./Northwood) had a shot just over two minutes into the second half that was saved by Giglio-Tos.
- The Gophers generated a penalty corner with just over five minutes left in the period.
- Brashear saved both shots on goal she faced in the quarter.
- Grace Hardy converted a penalty stroke for Elizabethtown just over two minutes into the quarter to make it 2-0.
- Brashear stopped four straight shots by the Blue Jays.
- Etown cashed in on a corner with 47 seconds to go with Sydney Aguilar scoring.
- Elizabethtown generated a 19-3 shot advantage and took 14 of the game's 17 penalty corners.
