Chatterjee Hat Trick, Five Different Goal Scorers Move Gophers Past Notre Dame (Md.)

TOWSON, Md. - Junior Amita Chatterjee (Silver Spring, Md. / Wheaton) totaled three goals and two assists for eight points as the Goucher College field hockey team registered its first victory of the season, blanking Notre Dame (Md.) 8-0 Tuesday night at Beldon Field.
- Mia Wiggins (San Diego, Calif. / University City) had the first shot of the game for Goucher (1-7) at the 1:44 mark that went wide.
- The Gators (1-6) generated a penalty corner just past the four-minute mark.
- NDMU's Vanessa Dunn had a shot on goal in the seventh minute that was stopped by Devin Brashear (Escondido, Calif. / San Pasqual).
- Wiggins put a shot on goal at 7:47 that was saved by Gator goalie Jensen Armstrong.
- Off a penalty corner, Zoe Mikles (Jarrettsville, Md. / North Harford) got the Gophers on the board off an assist by Chatterjee with 3:48 remaining in the first.
- Chatterjee converted off a penalty corner just past the 19-minute mark after the Gophers generated three straight penalty corners for a 2-0 lead.
- After two straight Goucher corners, Emily Postlethwait (Herndon, Va. / Herndon) scored with 6:08 left in the first half, with Wiggins assisting.
- Notre Dame had a pair of corners the rest of the half but did not get a shot off.
- Dunn put a shot on goal for the Gators 2:26 in that was turned aside by Brashear.
- Chatterjee scored her second goal of the game at the 36:30 mark with Brighid Kowal (Silver Spring, Md. / Northwood) recording the assist.
- In the 42nd minute, Alexyss Pawlak (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Edison) made it 5-0 in favor of the Gophers.
- 45 seconds later, Postlethwait's second goal of the night off a corner was assisted by Mikles and Chatterjee to make it 6-0.
- Chatterjee completed her hat trick when she knocked home a loose ball on a corner with 16 seconds left, making the score 7-0.
- Wiggins added her name to the scoring column when she scored 1:38 into the final frame, with Postlethwait adding the assist.
- Notre Dame had a shot on goal in the final minute but the attempt was turned aside by Goper relief goalie Gillian Sickler (Alexandria, Va. / West Potomac).
- Goucher outshot Notre Dame 15-4 on the evening.
- The Gators did generate a 12-9 advantage in penalty corners.
- Brashear went the first 41:32 in goal and made three saves. Julia Foster (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford) played the next 9:02 and was not forced to make a save, while Sickler completed the shutout with one save in the final 9:26.
- Six different Gophers recorded at least a point.
- Mikles goal was the first collegiate goal for the freshman.
