Gophers Fall in Landmark Opener at Drew

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University field hockey team downed Goucher College 4-1 in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.
- Drew (3-3, 1-0 Landmark) generated two corners in the game's second minute, with Goucher's (1-5, 0-1) Daryn Carter (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) recording a defensive save on a Ranger shot.
- After putting six shots on goal, Drew scored at the 10:56 mark on a Tyler Olivio tally to make it 1-0.
- Just over a minute later, the hosts converted a penalty corner to make it 2-0.
- Drew extended its lead to 3-0 in the 23rd minute.
- Goucher goalie Julia Foster (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) made two more saves the remainder of the period.
- Carter put a shot on goal just past the 40-minute mark, with the Rangers making a defensive save.
- Macy Motovidlak (Wittman, Md. / St. Michaels) pushed a shot for the Gophers wide with just over five minutes remaining.
- The Rangers generated a penalty corner with two minutes left, with Foster making another save.
- Drew extended its lead to 4-0 just over a minute into the final period.
- Goucher got on the board two minutes later when Zoe Mikles (Jarrettsville, Md. / North Harford) created a turnover in the midfield, dribbled in and fired inside the far right post to get the visitors on the board.
- Drew outshot Goucher 30-3, with Foster making a career-best 17 saves.
- The Rangers took 23 penalty corners in the contest.
