Balanced Attack Pushes Gophers Past Southern Virginia

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College field hockey team got goals from three different goal scorers as it downed Southern Virginia University 3-1 Tuesday evening at a rainy Beldon Field in non-conference action.
- Goucher (2-6) got its first shot on goal just over two minutes in as Carla Caballero (Dallas, Texas / Greenhill School) put a shot on that was saved by SVU (1-7) goalie Keira White.
- Gopher keeper Julia Foster (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) made her first save four minutes in.
- Rylie Belauskas (San Diego, Calif. / University City) had a shot saved by White with just under two minutes left.
- Goucher scored on a penalty corner 1:24 into the second, as Daryn Carter (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) slid a shot through from the top of the arc for her third goal of the season.
- Foster made a save off a Knight penalty corner with just under five minutes to go.
- Macy Motovidlak (Wittman, Md./St. Michael's) had a pair of shots saved by White with four minutes left.
- Southern Virginia tied the game 54 seconds into the third quarter on a goal by Carly Hoffer.
- Goucher reclaimed the lead just over two minutes later, as Amita Chatterjee (Silver Spring, Md. / Wheaton) tipped home a shot from the point by Alana Wang (Louisville, Ky. / North Oldham).
- The Gophers generated several penalty corners and cashed in with 2:13 left in the third as Motovidlak knocked home a pass by Maddie Fisher (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) for her third goal of the season.
- Southern Virginia took six of the seven shots in the final frame with Foster making four saves.
- Fisher had a shot on goal with five minutes left that was stopped by White.
- Goucher held a 21-20 shot advantage on the evening and took 12 penalty corners to the Knights' eight.
- Foster made nine saves for the Gophers, while SVU goalie White made six stops.
- Carter, Motovidlak and Fisher each took four shots.
- Wang and Fisher recorded their first collegiate points with their assists.
- Goucher travels to Susquehanna on Saturday for a 1 pm Landmark Conference contest.
- The Gophers return home next Saturday, October 15, hosting Juniata at 1 pm at Beldon Field.
