Gophers Fall to Etown on Senior Day

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College field hockey team honored four seniors on Senior Day Saturday, but the Elizabethtown College field hockey team posted a 7-0 Landmark Conference victory at Beldon Field Saturday afternoon.
- Elizabethtown (7-8, 3-3 Landmark) controlled possession early with Grace Hardy and Drew Bridges each testing Goucher goalie Julia Foster (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) with two shots each all turned away by Foster.
- Just across the seven minute mark, Bridges buried a shot for her first of the game assisted by Grace Hussey.
- Hussey got her second point of the game as she put away a back pipe shot from Chloe Smith at the 11:58 mark to extend the lead by two.
- Foster made six saves during a busy first frame.
- Two minutes into the second, Sydney Aguilar beat Foster to push the lead to 3-0.
- Hussey added her second goal of the contest two minutes later.
- Hardy got back in the scorers book with a goal from a Chloe Smith assist.
- Salena Paronish got in on the action with an unassisted tally at 27:44 to close out the half.
- Both teams made a goalie change at halftime with the Gophers turning to Carla Caballero (Dallas, Texas/Greenhill School), and the Jays turning to Madeline Kachel.
- Caballero came up big not allowing a potent Blue Jay attack to score while making a few highlight saves.
- Daryn Carter (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) had the Gophers best chance of the game as a lift by her floated over everyone before ringing off the crossbar midway through the half.
- Riley Peery (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) attempted to bury the rebound but was turned away.
- Caballero made four saves in the final four minutes of the quarter.
- Elizabethtown added their final goal of the game with just under eight minutes left as Chloe Smith put one in on Caballero.
- The Blue Jays were awarded a penalty stroke with four minutes left but sent it wide.
- Foster led all goalies with 12 saves in her final game at Beldon Field, while Caballero made five stops.
- Elizabethtown out shot Goucher 31-4 and took 14 penalty corners to the Gophers' four.
- Goucher honored seniors Foster, Amita Chatterjee (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton), Brighid Kowal (Silver Spring, Md./Northwood) and Maria Campbell (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) prior to Saturday's contest.
- Goucher is on the road next week first at Stevenson on Monday at 6 pm.
- The Gophers wrap up the season with a trip to Bethlehem PA. to face Landmark foe Moravian next Saturday at 6:30 pm.
