Gophers Pick Off Greyhounds, Now 3-3 in Landmark

Season-Best .760 Performance on Free-Throw Attempts

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — After losing twice in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center last weekend to fall below .500 in the Landmark Conference, it was important for Goucher to steal at least one win on the road this weekend. Mission accomplished: The Gophers picked off Moravian tonight, 65-45, giving them a victory over the Crusaders in Johnston Hall for the second year in a row.

Micah Perry (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) tallied 14 of his game-high 20 points in the first half, helping the Gophers (5-10, 3-3 Landmark) open up a 34-29 cushion at the break. The junior guard missed the first two shots he took, but he landed his next three attempts, each one from behind the three-point stripe. His third three-pointer put Goucher up 17-11 midway through the period.

The Gophers stretched their lead to as many as eight points in the opening period, but needed two free throws by Perry with :03 showing on the clock to push their advantage back up to five points at halftime.

Both teams made two field goals in the first 7:01 of the second half, yet the Gophers outscored the Crusaders (4-12, 1-5 Landmark), 11-4 during that span to extend their lead to 45-33. The two Moravian baskets were of the standard two-point variety, while Shane Yambor (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) and Dorian Green (Baltimore, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) both knocked down three-point attempts. In addition, Goucher made all five of its free-throw attempts, including the three awarded to Tim Alexander (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) when he was fouled on a three-point try.

Goucher's lead reached 20 points for the first time on Yambor's three-pointer with 4:34 left to play.

In victory, the Gophers made a season-high 10 three-point field goals and also had their best showing of 2009-10 at the charity stripe where they were 19-of-25 (.760).

Yambor backed up Perry's 20-point performance by contributing 13 points to the win.

Chris Cullen captured scoring honors for Moravian as he finished with 15 points. Eric Weaver, who was leading the Greyhounds at 14.3 points per game going in, was only 1-for-15 from the field and managed three points.

The win was Goucher's fifth in the 16 Landmark Conference road games the Gophers have played since the eight-school league was formed. In their previous four successful ventures away from home, however, their largest margin of victory was seven points.
