remaining in the first half, Goucher was down only five points to
the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
By the break, however, 23 points separated head coach Leonard Trevino's Gophers and the first-place team in the Landmark Conference, all because of a 19-1 run by the Mariners, who went on to record a 78-47 victory.
Following Bailey's layup, the only point Goucher managed the remainder of the period was a free throw by Kyle Gladden (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) that made the score 29-17 with exactly 3:00 left to play before halftime. The Mariners (19-4, 10-2 Landmark) closed out the first half on an 11-0 run to open up a commanding 40-17 advantage.
The closest the Gophers (6-15, 4-7 Landmark) got at any point in the second half was when Bailey landed a three-point basket just :52 into the period, making the score 42-22.
The leading scorers for Goucher were Shane Yambor (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) with 13 points and Gladden with 10. For Merchant Marine, Matt Hueber finished with game-high totals of 16 points and eight rebounds.
