WASHINGTON, D.C. — In the 51st meeting between two old Capital Athletic Conference rivals, Catholic, powered by a high-flying first half, wrapped up the first round of the Landmark Conference slate with a win.
Catholic (16-2, 6-1 Landmark) scored 10 of the game's first 12 points, with the only Goucher (5-12, 3-4 Landmark) only receiving a basket from Richard Harris (Clinton, Md./Surrattsville) over the first 5:04.
With the score 20-13, Catholic extended its lead courtesty of a personal 9-0 stretch from Steve Limberiou, who hit three straight threes.
After Julian Livingston (Bowie, Md./Fairmont Heights) nailed a three to stop the run, Catholic rattled off 11 straight points, capped by another Limberiou three-pointer, extending its lead to 40-16 right before the half.
Limberiou finished the first half with 15 points for the Cardinals, who finished thre frame outshooting the Gophers from the floor by a 58.6% to 19.4% margin.
While the Gophers improved significantly from the floor in the more balanced second half, they could not make a dent in the Cardinal lead, eventually falling 72-46.
Catholic is now 9-0 this season at home and off to its best start in Landmark Conference history. The Cardinals have now won ten straight matchups against the Gophers, moving to 39-12 overall.
Harris once again led all Goucher scorers with 14 points.
