Morton's 14 Help Pull Gophers Back Before Half
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Goucher went without a basket for 11:07 in the first half but rallied in to make the game close, before running out of gas, falling 60-46.
Goucher (5-14, 3-6 Landmark) took its only lead of the game at 4-3 on a Mico James (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) layup, but cooled off immediately, as only Troy DeShields (Seaford, Del./Sussex Technical) made a basket over the next 13:42 for the Gophers.
Over that span, Susquehanna (8-12, 4-5 Landmark) went on a 25-3 run to earn its largest lead of the game at 21.
The Gophers broke their scoreless drought with 3:28 left in the half, still sitting on seven total points, scoring 14 more before the half concluded.
Richard Harris (Clinton, Md./Surrattsville) got Goucher back into shape offensively hitting back-to-back threes, and Brian Morton II (Ellicott City, Md./Mount St. Joseph) scored the last eight Goucher points in the frame on a rare four-point play, a jumper and two free throws.
Goucher opened up the second half on a 12-5 run to cut the lead to six, but could get no closer than five before the hosts pulled away to close it out.
Morton finished in a tie for the game's high point total at 14, with Harris close behind with 11. Morton also added seven rebounds, one shy of the team-high for rebounds set by Trae Lindsay (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco).
Mike Perillo led Susquehanna with 10 assists.
