Buck Leads Mariners Past Gophers to Earn Split

A back-and-forth first half opened up as Merchant Marine (11-10, 4-7 Landmark) used a 9-0 run to open up a digit-lead.
Dylan Chaney (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and Troy DeShields (Seaford, Del./Sussex Technical) each scored to wrap up the first half, cutting the halftime margin to 35-23.
Chaney opened up the second half with a jumper, followed by a pair of baskets from Trae Lindsay (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) to close out the 10-0 run by Goucher (5-15, 3-7 Landmark).
A four-point play from Brian Morton II (Ellicott City, Md./Mount St. Joseph) started a 9-0 run just a few minutes later, getting the Gophers within two.
They would get no closer.
With 7:27 left, the Mariners started a 7-0 run to boost the lead to nine, finishing off the Gophers' hopes.
Alex Noble (Clinton, Md./Surrattsville) was tops among Goucher scorers with 12. Lindsay had his third double-double of the season and 11th of his career with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Buck scored 21 points for the Mariners to lead all scorers. He was followed closely by teammate Nick Sergio who tallied 18.
Frankie Wiseley had seven assists for the Mariners.
