SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — In the first 13:03 of tonight's game, Muhlenberg did not connect on a single two-point field goal, but shot an astounding 10-for-12 from three to blow past Goucher.
Trae Lindsay (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) opened up the game's scoring for Goucher (3-7) with a free throw, but 1-0 would be the last time the Gophers would lead as the offensive onslaught from Muhlenberg (7-4) was far too much.
Malique Killing hit the first three for Muhlenberg to take the lead, but after Goucher scored to tie, Austin Curry took over.
Curry scored each of the next 13 points for the Mules, nailing four threes, the last of which drew a foul as well. The junior hit on each of his first six threes, including the four-point play, single-handedly outscoring the Gophers 19-18 in the first 14:30 as the Mules opened up their largest lead of the game, 21.
He would end with a game-high 26, including shooting 7-of-10 from long range.
Goucher rallied to pull within 12 at the break, using a 7-2 run to close out the frame. The Mules had 11 made threes in the half.
Mico James (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and Richard Harris (Clinton, Md./Surrattsville) each hit on field goals to extend the Goucher run to 11-2, putting the team back within single digits, but a 7-0 run by the Mules put the lead back above 10, where it would stay for the entirety of the second half, giving the Mules an 81-66 victory.
James led Goucher with 20 points, joining only Julian Livingston (Bowie, Md./Fairmont Heights) as Goucher's double-digit scorers. Livingston had 14, one shy of his career high.
The three-team Puerto Rico Classico will conclude tomorrow as the Gophers take on Albright at 5 p.m., local time. The Lions slipped past Muhlenberg by two points yesterday in the Classico's first game.
