Gophers Fall to Midshipmen in Exhibition Contest
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Facing off against its first Division I opponent in over three years, the Goucher men’s basketball team was handed a 98-47 defeat at the hands of Navy in an exhibition contest tonight.

Navy, which counted the game as a regular season tilt, improves to 1-2. The Gophers will make their regular season debut against Gordon this Friday.
The Midshipmen took a 17-7 advantage into the first media timeout and never looked back from there. Goucher trailed 54-21 at halftime.
Julian Livingston (Bowie, Md./Fairmont Heights) led the Gophers with nine points, including a perfect 4 for 4 performance from the free throw line. As a team, Goucher made 14 of its 18 free throw attempts overall.
Manney Wood (Washington, D.C./C. H. Flowers (Md.)) and Ed Oliver (Adelphi, Md./High Point) each chipped in seven points, while Alex Noble (Clinton, Md./Surrattsville) and Tre Galloway III (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) each added six. Wood and Noble led the Gophers with five rebounds apiece.
Navy shot 48.8 percent from the field for the game, compared to 28.3 percent for Goucher. The Midshipmen also held a commanding 58-25 edge in rebounds, with 23 offensive boards included in that total.
Brandon Venturini led Navy with 16 points. A total of 17 Midshipmen saw action in tonight's game.
Goucher's season-opening game against Gordon will take place at 7:30 p.m. from the Decker Sports & Recreation Center this Friday. The game will kick start the three-day Goucher Classic. Gordon will square off against Roanoke at 2 p.m. Saturday before Goucher and Roanoke conclude the tournament at 2 p.m. Sunday.
