Outing Misses Triple-Double by Rebound, Two Blocks

TOWSON, Md. — Chris Outing (New Windsor, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) flirted with a triple-double and a school record in Goucher's game against Susquehanna tonight in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center. The Crusaders, who came in tied with Catholic for first place in the Landmark Conference, earned a 67-53 victory over the Gophers.

Outing was one of three double-digit scorers for Goucher as he tallied 10 points, all in the first half. He missed what would have been only the second triple-double in the history of the school's men's basketball program by one rebound and two blocked shots; his eight blocks were one shy of the single-game school record established by Trae Lindsay against Moravian during the 2011-12 season.

The junior forward accounted for eight of the home team's first 10 points, but the Gophers (9-15, 5-10 Landmark) didn't take their first lead of the game until a made jumper by Kevin Miles (District Heights, Md./Gwynn Park) put them up 18-17 with 8:02 left to play in the first half.

Unfortunately, head coach Tom Rose's squad remained stuck on 18 for more than seven minutes, which provided Susquehanna with the opportunity to reel off 15 consecutive points and assume a 32-18 advantage. Outing sank a pair of free throws with 36 seconds remaining in the opening half to make the score 32-20, but Brandon Hedley nailed a 3-point basket just before the buzzer sounded to put the Crusaders (20-3, 11-3 Landmark) up 35-20 at the break.

Hedley was 5-for-8 from 3-point range and supplied Susquehanna with 18 points in the first half.

The closest the Gophers got at any point in the second half was 51-45 when Troy DeShields (Seaford, Del./Sussex Technical) scored in the paint with nearly seven minutes still to be played, but the Crusaders responded with a 7-0 run to get their lead back up to 13 points in less than 90 seconds.

Hedley made only one 3-pointer in the second half, but still finished with a game-high 27 points.

Miles was the leading scorer for Goucher with 16 points, while, after a scoreless first half, Ed Oliver (Adelphi, Md./High Point) tallied 11 points over the final 20 minutes.

The Gophers bring down the curtain on their 2015-16 campaign when they take on the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Decker SRC.
