Keystone Rallies Past Gophers Late

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Despite 23 points from senior Cam Isaacs (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown), the Goucher College men's basketball team dropped a 74-66 decision to Keystone College in the opening round of the Stevenson Tip-Off Friday afternoon at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
- Goucher (1-1) opened up a 13-11 lead eight minutes in following a basket by John Dixon (Towson, Md. / Loyola Blakefield).
- A 6-0 spurt capped by a basket by Octavius Johnson (Houston, Texas / Pasadena Memorial) with 4:40 left before halftime extended the Gopher lead to 23-16.
- Goucher went up eight, 32-34, on a tip-in by Drew Pitts (Randallstown, Md. / Randallstown) with 1:52 on the clock.
- Keystone (2-2) scored the final five points of the half and went into the locker room down three, 32-29.
- Isaacs hit a three on the first Goucher possession of the second half to double the Gopher lead.
- The Giants cut the lead to one, 37-36, on a basket with 16 minutes left.
- A 13-4 Gopher run capped by a Johnson basket at the 11:42 mark put Goucher in front by 10, 50-40.
- Goucher took its largest lead, 57-44, with 7:51 remaining on a basket by Ryan Conde (Stafford, Va. / Mountain View).
- Keystone responded with a 16-2 run over the next four minutes to go up 60-59 with 4:05 to go.
- The Gophers scored the next four points to go up 63-60 on a Tevin Venson (Waldorf, Md. / Thomas Stone) basket with 3:19 left.
- The Giants countered with a 6-0 spurt and went up 66-63 on a Gary Brown conventional three-point play with 1:40 left.
- Keystone went 6-6 at the free throw line in the final minute to seal the win.
- Isaacs finished 8-18 from the floor and 5-10 behind the arc.
- Venson tallied nine points off the bench, going 4-5 from the floor.
- Johnson added eight points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
- Keystone, which outrebounded Goucher 37-31. shot 51% from the floor and 53.3% (8-15) behind the arc.
- Goucher is back in action at the Stevenson Tip-Off on Saturday, facing Clarks Summit in a 2 pm contest.
- The Gophers return home on Tuesday, November 23, hosting 20th-ranked Roanoke in a 7 pm game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
