Gophers Return to Action With Setback Against Mary Washington

READING, Pa. - Mary Washington closed the first half on an 18-0 run to pull away from Goucher College en route to a 77-48 non-conference men's basketball victory in the first round of Albright College's Double Tree Holiday Tournament Wednesday afternoon at the Bollman Center.
- Two layups by Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) put Goucher (3-7) up 4-2 two minutes into the game.
- Mary Washington (10-3) used a 10-2 run to go up 12-6 with 14:58 on the clock.
- A basket by Nieko White (Churchton, Md./Southern) halted the Eagle run.
- UMW built a 31-12 lead just past the midway point.
- An 8-2 Gopher run capped by a three by Cam Isaacs (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) with 7:05 remaining pulled Goucher within a baker's dozen, 33-20.
- Mary Washington scored the final 18 points of the half and led 51-20 at the break.
- Lichti knocked down a three 2:29 into the second half to break Goucher's scoring drought.
- Back-to-back threes by Isaacs and Tevin Venson (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) with 12:29 left made it 60-33 in favor of the Eagles.
- A basket by Jay Clark (Baltimore, Md./Poly) with 51 seconds left closed out the scoring for the Gophers.
- Lichti finished 6-12 from the floor and paced Goucher with 13 points, leading the Gophers in scoring for the third time this season.
- Isaacs recorded 12 points and five rebounds.
- White and Axel Seka (Frederick, Md./Urbana) each chipped in with five points.
- Mary Washington shot 58.8% in the first half and 48.3% for the game while limiting Goucher to 32.1% shooting.
- The Eagles knocked down 13 of their 29 three-point attempts and outrebounded the Gophers 44-29.
- Goucher matched a season low with 10 turnovers.
- The Gophers will face Johnson and Wales (R.I.) in the consolation game of the Double Tree Holiday Tournament Thursday at 2 pm at the Bollman Center.
- Goucher returns home on Wednesday, January 12 as it hosts Juniata in a 7 pm Landmark Conference contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Spectators are not permitted at Goucher home sporting events through at least January 29.
