Cardinals Ease Past Gophers

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Host Catholic University scored the game's first 10 points and never looked back en route to a 84-40 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory over Goucher College Wednesday evening at Franny Murray Court.
- Catholic (11-4, 4-2 Landmark) held Goucher (3-14, 0-7) scoreless for nearly the first eight minutes as it opener up a 10-0 lead.
- Nieko White (Churchton, Md./Southern) scored the first points of the game for the Gophers at the 12:14 mark.
- The Cardinals took a 21-5 lead with 9:18 on the clock and took their largest lead of the first half, 32-11, 4:18 before halftime.
- Goucher closed the first half on a 10-3 run and a steal and basket by Cam Isaacs (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) 24 seconds before halftime made it 35-21 at the break.
- A basket by Tevin Venson (Waldorf, Md/Thomas Stone) nine seconds into the second half cut Catholic's lead to 12.
- Catholic used a 9-2 run to go up 44-25 four minutes into the period.
- The hosts extended the lead to 52-26 with 13:30 on the clock and gradually pulled away, never letting the lead go below 24.
- Isaacs finished 5-11 from the floor and was the lone Gopher in double figures with 12 points.
- Octavius Johnson (Houston, Texas/Pasadena Memorial) totaled six points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
- White added six points off the bench.
- Catholic, which outrebounded Goucher 33-26, shot 56.7% for the game and was 13-24 from three, including 8-11 in the second half.
- Goucher shot 30.4% overall and was 4-17 behind the arc and 8-20 at the free throw line.
- The Cardinals won their third straight game.

- Goucher is slated to return to action Saturday when it hosts Moravian in a 2 pm Landmark Conference contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Spectators are currently not permitted at Goucher home sporting events.
