Hot Shooting Pushes Scranton Past Gophers

SCRANTON, Pa. - Host Scranton took control midway through the first half as it posted a 95-60 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon at the John Long Center.
- Goucher (3-17, 0-10 Landmark) took a 9-5 lead just over four minutes in following a basket by John Dixon (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield).
- After Scranton (12-7, 6-3 Landmark) scored the next four points, Cam Isaacs (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) put the Gophers up 11-9 at the 14:40 mark.
- The Royals scored the next five points to take a 14-11 lead.
- After a Tevin Venson (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) basket pulled Goucher within six, 27-21, at the 9:13 mark, Scranton scored the next 13 points to go up 40-21 at the 5:13 mark.
- Venson scored 4:14 before halftime to end the Goucher drought.
- The hosts held a 54-29 halftime lead.
- Scranton scored the first four points of the second half.
- A 9-0 run capped by a layup by Nieko White (Churchton, Md./Southern) capped a 9-0 Gopher run and made it 69-51 with 12:21 remaining.
- The Royals put the game away with an 11-0 run that pushed the lead to 86-54 with just over five minutes left.
- Isaacs led the Gophers with 16 points on 7-12 shooting, including 2-4 behind the arc.
- Venson was 7-11 from the floor and scored 14 points, his third straight game in double figures, averaging 20.3 ppg over that span.
- Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) was 5-8 at the free throw line and 3-4 from the field en route to 12 points.
- Dixon and White each added six points.
- Goucher shot 52.1% overall and went 3-9 behind the arc.
- The Royals shot 73% in the first half and 66.7% (38-57) for the game while knocking down 13 of their 26 three point attempts.
- Scranton held a 26-20 rebound advantage.
- Goucher returns home Wednesday, hosting Catholic in a 7 pm contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Goucher faculty, staff and students are permitted to attend but no external spectators are currently allowed.
