Cardinals Fly Past Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Catholic University jumped out to a 46-30 halftime lead and never looked back, downing Goucher College in Landmark Conference men's basketball Wednesday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Catholic (14-6, 7-4 Landmark) jumped out to a 12-6 lead just over five minutes into the game.
- Goucher (3-18, 0-11) scored the next seven points and an up-and-under by Tevin Venson (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) put Goucher up 13-12 with 12:37 left before halftime.
- The Cardinals took the lead on a three on their next possession.
- Goucher cut the lead to one twice, the second on a Venson three at the 11:16 mark, and were down 21-19 on an Octavius Johnson (Houston, Texa/Pasadena Memorial) bucket with 9:49 left.
- The guests scored 13 straight points to go up 37-21 at the 3:13 mark.
- A three by Cam Isaacs (Randallstown, Md./Randallstown) with 2:23 left halted the Gopher drought.
- A Cardinal putback at the buzzer put the visitors up 46-30 at the break.
- Catholic used an early 8-2 spurt to go up 54-32 four minutes in.
- An Isaacs basket at the 15:04 mark made it 54-34.
- The Cardinals held the Gophers without a field goal for the next five-plus minutes opening a 63-36 lead.
- A three by Drew Pitts (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) with 9:36 left broke the Goucher drought.
- The guests led by at least 23 the rest of the way.
- Venson led the Gophers with 10 points, the fourth time in five games he has reached double figures.
- Isaacs notched nine points, while Johnson added eight.
- Goucher shot 34% overall, 6-23 behind the arc and 7-11 at the free throw line.
- Catholic, which won for the sixth time in eight games, shot 54.5% overall and 11-23 from long range. The guests held a 36-27 rebound advantage.

- Goucher is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Susquehanna for Senior Day in a 2 pm tip at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center. Spectator attendance is currently limited to Goucher faculty, staff and students.
