Aggies Pull Away from Gophers in Second Half

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Delaware Valley University broke open what had been a one-point game at halftime with a 15-4 over the first six-plus minutes of the second half and never looked back as it posted a 93-76 non-conference men's basketball victory over Goucher College Saturday afternoon at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Goucher (1-3) scored the game's first nine points with a Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) layup making it 9-0 four minutes in.
- DelVal (3-2) got its first field goal of the game at the 14:33 mark.
- Trailing 24-15, the Aggies used a 10-0 run capped by a Zoelin Pair basket to take their first lead, 25-24, with 7:45 left before halftime.
- A dunk by Paul Vance (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) on the next Gopher possession put the hosts back in front.
- On the other end Delaware Valley made a three to go up 28-26 with 7:20 on the clock.
- The guests pulled out to a 39-33 lead with 3:23 on the clock.
- Goucher clawed back and seven straight points capped by a Green three put it back in front, 40-39, with 1:27 left.
- The Gophers extended the lead to 42-39 on a Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) basket but the Aggies scored the final four points of the half to go in up 43-42.
- DelVal scored the first nine points of the second half to build a 10-point cushion, 52-42, with 16:47 remaining.
- Morgan had the Gophers' first basket of the second stanza at 16:41.
- The Aggie lead fluctuated between eight and 12 for much of the next 10-plus minutes.
- Leading 74-64, back-to-back Aggie buckets gave the guests a 78-64 lead with 3:26 left.
- Goucher cut the lead two more times but Delaware Valley would gradually pull away down the stretch.
- Goucher landed five players in double figures, with first year Vance recording a career-best 15 points on 7-8 shooting while also grabbing four rebounds.
- Senior Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) registered 14 points and a career-high seven assists.
- Green notched 13 points, while John Dixon (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and Morgan registered 10 points apiece.
- Goucher shot 49.2% from the floor, 5-15 behind the arc and 13-22 at the free throw line.
- DelVal, which won its second straight, shot 48.5% overall, was 5-19 behind the arc and 24-32 at the charity stripe.
- The guests held a 44-28 rebounding advantage.
- Goucher and Delaware Valley were meeting for the first time in men's basketball.
- Goucher hits the road Tuesday night when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 7 pm contest.
- The Gophers return home on Wednesday, November 30 when they entertain Gwynedd Mercy in an 8 pm tip at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
