Royals Hold Off Gophers

SCRANTON, Pa. - Host University of Scranton never trailed as it posted a 59-45 Landmark Conference men's basketball victory over Goucher College at the John Long Center Saturday afternoon.
- Scranton (6-0, 1-0 Landmark) opened up a 10-2 lead six minutes into the game.
- Goucher (1-6, 0-1) scored the next eight points and a Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) basket tied the game 10-10 with 11:09 on the clock.
- The Royals countered with the game's next 16 points as they held the Gophers scoreless for over five minutes.
- The guests chipped away and a three by Onterio Miller (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) cut the lead to 11, 32-21, with 34 seconds left.
- After a Scranton three, Miller drained a long three from 30 feet at the buzzer as the Gophers went in down 35-24.
- Goucher cut the lead to nine, 37-28, two minutes into the second half on a basket by Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie)
- An 11-0 Scranton run put the Royals in front 48-28 with 14:19 on the clock.
- An 8-1 Gopher spurt capped by two free throws by Mal Graham (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) whittled the lead to 13, 49-36, just past the half's midpoint.
- The Royals extended the lead back to 19, 55-36, with 6:26 left.
- The guests closed out outscoring Scranton 9-4.
- Green led the Gophers in the scoring column with 11 points. He also had four steals
- Miller finished with nine points off the bench, while Morgan added eight points and four rebounds.
- Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) contributed seven points and three steals.
- Goucher shot 30.2% overall and was 4-19 behind the arc and 9-16 at the free throw line.
- Scranton, which held a 39-29 rebounding advantage, shot 44.2% overall and was 9-23 behind the arc.
