Gophers Can't Overcome Greyhounds Hot Shooting in Exhibition Setback

BALTIMORE - Host Loyola Maryland shot 69.7% in the opening 20 minutes and 62% for the game as it downed Goucher College 99-53 in men's basketball Thursday evening at Reitz Arena. The game counts in the standings for the Division I Greyhounds but is an exhibition for the Gophers.
- Goucher matched Loyola (5-8) on its first three baskets, with a layup by Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) making it 7-6 2:41 into the game.
- The Greyhounds used a 12-2 run to build a 19-8 lead at the 13:04 mark.
- Back-to-back baskets by Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Drew Pitts (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) and a three by Onterio Miller (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) cut the lead to six, 21-15, with 11:51 on the clock.
- A 12-4 Loyola spurt pushed its lead to 14, 33-19, with 8:34 left before intermission.
- Devin Brackenridge (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) knocked down a three with just under five minutes left that made it 42-25.
- The Greyhounds closed on a 12-2 run and took a 54-27 lead into halftime, with Mal Graham (Grasonville, Md.Kent Island) making a basket for Goucher to close out the half.
- Loyola opened the second half on a 13-4 run to go up 67-31 with just under five minutes gone in the second half.
- A 7-0 Gopher run capped by a conventional three-point play by Morgan at the 12:51 mark got the lead down to 67-38.
- After a Miller three with 10:06 to play, the Greyhounds scored 10 straight points to make it 89-41.
- A basket by David Nwankwo (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy) stopped the hosts' run with 6:33 left.
- Morgan led the Gophers with 11 points while also recording five rebounds and three assists.
- Lichti was 5-11 from the floor and totaled 10 points, while Nwankwo finished with eight points in seven minutes off the bench.
- Miller knocked down both of his three-point attempts and totaled six points, while Green also had six points.
- 10 of the 16 players who saw the floor for Goucher reached the scoring column.
- Loyola Maryland was 41-66 from the floor and 10-25 (40%) from three, including 6-12 in the opening 20 minutes.
- The Greyhounds, who held a 44-26 rebound advantage, were 7-11 at the free throw line, while Goucher was 4-7 at the stripe.
