Green Registers Double-Double At Baruch

NEW YORK CITY - Darrell Green (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) posted a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds as the Goucher College men's basketball team suffered a 66-56 setback at Baruch College Thursday afternoon at the ARC Arena.
- Goucher (2-9) led 5-3 three minutes into the game following a three by John Dixon (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield).
- After a 6-3 spurt put the Bearcats (8-3) back in front, a layup by David Nwankwo (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy) put the Gophers back in front, 10-9, nine minutes into the game.
- A 13-2 Baruch run put the hosts in front 22-12 with just under seven minutes to go in the first half.
- Baruch took its largest first half lead, 29-17, with 3:37 left in the opening half.
- An Onterio Miller (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) three and a basket by Green cut the lead to seven, 29-22, with 2:41 to go.
- The Bearcats took a 35-26 lead into halftime.
- Green had the first basket of the second half to cut Baruch's lead to seven.
- An 8-2 Bearcat run gave the hosts a 43-30 advantage with just over 15 minutes remaining.
- Goucher scored the next four points and a basket by Jacob Morgan (Bowie, Md./Bowie) with 13:49 on the clock made it a 43-34 game.
- The Bearcats pushed the lead back to 13, 50-37, with 10:44 left following a pair of free throws.
- The Gophers cut the lead to 10 three times and got it to nine on a Josh Lichti (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) free throw that made it 55-46 with 6:48 to go.
- A Nwankwo layup with 2:31 remaining made it a 58-52 lead for the hosts, the smallest lead of the second half.
- Baruch responded with the next four points. Goucher would cut it to eight twice in the final minute but got no closer.
- Green recorded his first double-double of the season going 6-11 from the floor. His 15 rebounds are a career high while he reached double figures in scoring for the eighth time this season.
- Morgan finished with 11 points and six steals, with all 11 points coming in the second half.
- Nwankwo totaled a career-best 11 points off the bench, going 5-9 from the floor, while Lichti added nine points.
- Goucher shot 34% overall and was 4-16 behind the arc and 8-12 at the free throw line.
- Baruch shot 39% overall and was 14-19 from the line and 6-17 from long range.
- Both teams grabbed 44 rebounds.
- The Bearcats registered 11 blocked shots on the afternoon.
- Goucher plays its second exhibition on Wednesday, January 4 when it travels to Morgan State for a 6 pm tip.
- The Gophers return home on Friday, January 13, hosting Drew in a 4 pm game at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
